Groupies: The Girls who lived for Rock N' Roll

Nowadays, the term 'groupie' has quite a bad rep', it's almost synonymous with the terms prostitute and slut, to name but a few (Trying my very best to avoid being crass)!Famed groupie, Pamela DesBarres, has claimed that she believes that the word 'groupie' should be viewed as a feminist term. This statement is open to a lot of criticism and skepticism to say the least! What those young girls got up to back then, as groupies, would certainly not be acceptable, or even legal for that matter, nowadays. Take for example, the story that back in the early seventies, Jimmy Page, lead guitarist of Led Zeppelin, supposedly 'kidnapped' a then 14 year old Lori Mattix, or Lori 'Lightning' as she was better known as back then. However, in saying that, Lori and Jimmy went on to have a 4 year on/off relationship and she toured with the band across the States. Lori was a vibrant member of the 'baby groupie' scene on the Sunset Strip of L.A. back in the early to mid seventies. Her claim to fame is losing her virginity at the young age of 13 to Mr. David Bowie. Lori and her pal Sable Starr ruled the L.A. groupie scene in their hayday, being regulars in clubs such as; the Riot House, The Rainbow, and Rodney's English Disco.Lori is said to be a very infamous Led Zeppelin muse, as is another groupie: Audrey Hamilton. This Chicago-based young girl was a special 'companion' of Robert Plant's and would jet-set with the band across the States. Songs inspired by Audrey: Hotdog; Led Zeppelin.

The next groupie is probably THE most outrageous one to date! Her name is Cynthia Albritton. She was a groupie of the likes of: Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding and Eric Burdon but to name a few. The Kiss song 'Plaster Caster' was written about her! She was most famous for making plastic replicas of the penises of rockstars! The next two girls were the groupies of Guns n' Roses: Barbi von Grief and Adriana Smith. Barbi inspired the GNR track Rocket Queen, however it is the orgasmic moans of Adriana that can can be quite evidently heard on the hit track! Adriana was the girlfriend of Steven Adler at the time Axl Rose wrote the song Rocket Queen. Next is the very famous groupie: Devon Wilson. Groupie of: Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison and Brian Jones. The Jimi Hendrix song 'Dolly Dagger' was written about her. She tragically suffered a fatal fall from the window of the Chelsea Hotel just months after Jimi's tragic death. The first ever know rock n' roll groupie was the groupie of Elvis Presley: Tura Satana. She also claims that Elvis proposed to her and the two were madly in love with each other! Below- Tura Satana!


                                                       

Next: Connie Hamzy, also known as 'Sweet Sweet' Connie or Connie Flowers. She is mentioned in Grand Funk Railroad's song- 'We're an American Band'. Her conquests include members of The Eagles and Led Zeppelin, and also Van Halen!
